Tied Up in the Strings of Life

So that's my fancy way of saying I've been busy and just don't seem to get around to posting. What's been taking up my time? Lots of driving places (Buffalo, Mad River, Braintree, Plymouth, Keene, Springfield plus Mattapan with a van full of teenagers). Awards dinners at Tufts (2). Neighborhood meet and greets for City Council candidates (2). Get togethers with old DU friends (2). Board meetings (2). Birthday celebrations, art openings, and Mother's Day lunch. The thing is, it's been a really great time throughout. I'm just too tied up with the next thing to think about posting the last.

Web Black Hole

If you want to get sucked right in and spend a lot of time in a fascinating look at Google images, go to Montage-a-google, an application developed by Grant Robinson (I'd love to know how he did it and even more, how he ever thought of doing it). What a terrific use of Google images! I've been playing with this for a whole day now, and I just keep coming back again and again with new search words. I can't stop myself. A few favorites are 'judy hourihan' which gives me a wonderful family montage, 'gurn' which turns out not to be my Buffalo friend who pointed me to this website but a verb instead, and 'maps' combined with various places I like, such as Paris, Buffalo or subway. Be sure to try it out but only if you've got an extra free hour or two.

Impressions of Ireland

countryside
Irish Countryside,
Originally uploaded by heyjud.

This photo, taken from the car as we drove from Waterville to Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry, captures the essence of Ireland as I found it on our recent trip. It's got the many shades of green, the gray of stone, the simple white building and the gray of a sky alternating between sun and cloud bursts. There are subtle variations but this is the general theme throughout the countryside. Towns however had a surprising amount of color, with some truly astonishing hues. Watch for the trip photo album coming soon.
